Do you love Long Beach's local food scene?
Long Beach's food scene is a cornucopia of our community's diversity, creativity, and shared values. Great food nurtures our health, sustains our planet, and brings us together in meaningful ways.
For nearly a decade, LB Fresh has been at the heart of fostering and supporting this thriving local food community. We've empowered farmers and gardeners to establish urban agriculture sites, championed policy changes to promote backyard growing and community gardens, and have helped start many beloved local food businesses.
Our initiatives include the Food Oasis Map, monthly Crop Swaps, LB Food Heroes Volunteer Portal and the annual LB Foodways Summit, all aimed at organizing and energizing the local food movement. We've also spearheaded placemaking projects at Farmers Markets and local healthy retailers, creating spaces where our community can come together.
Our work has been recognized in a UC Berkeley study on California Food Councils and a Miller Foundation study on Long Beach Urban Agriculture. Despite our successes, sustaining funding for these vital initiatives remains a challenge. We're reaching out to build a larger network of supporters who can help us raise the necessary funds to continue this impactful work.
Join us in strengthening Long Beach's food scene and making a lasting difference in our community. Together, we can cultivate a healthier, more connected future.

Are you a Fundraiser?
Through our work with gardens and gardeners, makers and markets, and fellow food councils across the state, we've discovered that successful fundraising for meaningful causes requires unique skills, strong relationships, and a dedicated temperament. These qualities often differ from those of the on-the-ground actors who are cultivating the soil or organizing local food initiatives.
We understand the importance of bringing diverse skillsets into our food movement to establish a robust funding base, ensuring the continuity and growth of the LB Fresh mission.
If you seek a deeper connection to impactful causes like healthy food access, climate change, sustainability education, and fostering our bond with the natural world, we invite you to join our efforts. Your expertise can help support and amplify this movement.
Whether you're a retiree looking to make a difference, a corporate professional with time to give, a stay-at-home parent seeking meaningful engagement, or part of a community development organization or financial institution, we are building a dedicated team of allies to raise an endowment for organizing and expanding Long Beach's local food scene.
Over the past decade, LB Fresh has raised nearly $1 million for local food causes. As our original philanthropists transition out of this space, we urgently need new supporters to sustain and grow this vital work.
